Project PEnPAL (Practicing English and Pedagogical Approaches to Letter-Writing) is a social educational initiative that aims to work with NGOs and community groups to inculcate and bolster English speaking and writing skills among students and youth from underserved communities. Being equipped with the knowledge of the English language is a powerful tool that not many have had the privilege to experience. Changing this scenario is only possible when efforts are made to disseminate the knowledge of this powerful language in more ways than one. The intersection between education and society is undeniable and it is crucial that we use this intersection to action change and aid in the

development of traditional educational systems and curricula, specifically targeted at marginalized groups.

Through PEnPAL, we seek to conduct a two pronged approach, wherein we firstly develop open educational resources exploring the fundamentals of the English language and discussing ways to approach conversational English in an easy-to-understand, beginner friendly manner; and secondly, collaborate with NGOs to conduct interactive and engaging workshops and pen pal programs to facilitate a greater understanding of everyday spoken english, supplemented by practical application of the acquired knowledge through letter writing.
